Woof-Walker

In my senior year of high school I was in a class where each group of students was assigned someone with a disability and we had to design, engineer and make a project to help them overcome their disability. My group made a crutch to help someone missing a leg walk their dog. The problem was that her dog liked to pull and she did not have good stability with her crutch. Therefore we took a crutch and added two motorized legs to it. If the dog started pulling and she needed more stability all that had to be done was press a button and the two legs would deploy. This gave her three points of contact with the ground and made it much easier to control the dog. After the person was able to get control of her dog, all that needed to be done was press the button again and the legs would lift back up. This was done using an arduino, an H-bridge to let us use a DC motor in both directions, a chain and the two auxiliary legs made of wood. It made me feel really good to make a product that actually changed someone's life for the better.
