I love playing video games and have always wanted a full size arcade cabinet like there are in arcades. I specifically wanted one to play retro games. Living in a NYC apartment was a limiting factor. Therefore, I decided to make a tabletop arcade cabinet that had a similar form factor to a full sized one minus the height. I decided to use a Raspberry Pi to run all the games as it would be emulating old arcade systems or old home gaming consoles that are not hard to run. I bought joysticks, buttons, breakout boards, MDF, rubber molding and all the other supplies needed to build the cabinet and the electronics needed to run it. I took inspiration from other designs I saw online and based my cabinet off of what I learned from the online projects. I designed a custom lit up marquee banner for it as well. I was on a tight timeline to build it as I was graduating high school in two and half weeks and would not be able to use my school's makerspace after that. I cut out all the pieces, sanded them and then painted them. After that I cut grooves to put the rubber molding accent pieces in. I then put in all the buttons and electronics. I gave it a light dusting and I had all my friends playing on it for hours. It is a staple of my apartment and everyone loves to come over and play it.
